Redcliffe Partners and Clifford Chance organised the conference Financing Energy in Ukraine: The Green Future is Coming

On 14 June 2018, Redcliffe Partners and Clifford Chance organised the conference "Financing Energy in Ukraine: The Green Future is coming". This conference provided a broad discussion platform of international format, where visitors were able to discuss the latest regulatory changes in the Ukrainian legislation, including the outlook for the introduction of auctions, as well as various aspects of the "bankability" of alternative energy projects.

Dmytro Fedoruk, partner and head of the Energy practice at Redcliffe Partners, was the moderator of this session. Svitlana Teush, head of the Renewable Energy Sector Focus practice, spoke about the peculiarities of project implementation in the context of legislative changes, and the steps needed to spur investment in the industry. Florian Kutzbach, counsel with Clifford Chance Frankfurt, discussed current approaches to industry incentives in Europe.

Amongst the speakers of the panel who shared their views of the current situation in the industry and its future outlook were Sergiy Savchuk, Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, Dmytro Kovalenko, a newly appointed Member of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission, Michael Bno-Airiyan, International Cooperation Officer at Ukrenergo, Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, and Burak Pehlivan, Chairman of TUİD.

The second session focused on the issues of bankability and the financing of alternative energy projects. Amongst the speakers were Olga Yeriomina, Senior Banker of the EBRD Power & Energy Department, Rodion Morozov, Head of the Ecological Projects Department at UkrGasBank, Volodymyr Stavniuk, Chairman of the Board of the State Finance Institution for Innovations, and Dmytro Lukomskiy, Head of the Board at Avenston. Representatives of large businesses operating in the sector – including Kirill Bondar, of UDP Renewables, and Magnus Johansen, of Scatec Solar – contributed to the discussion with various practical points.

Jared Grubb, managing partner of Clifford Chance Istanbul, moderated the session and spoke about the best international practices of financing renewable energy projects. Olexiy Soshenko, managing partner and head of the Banking and Finance practice of Redcliffe Partners, provided an overview on various issues of bankability, and Riko Vanezis, a partner of Clifford Chance Frankfurt, shared the outlook of international investors and banks on bankability.
